I am Kickie Norrby and live in Emmaboda south east Sweden.
I would like to tell a little about myself and my big interest in dogs.
I use to joke and say,
”If I have lived an earlier life, I think I was a dog then!”
Since I was a little baby, I have loved dogs and have had a special ability to get along with them. My mother was scared to death more than one time when she found me talking to and petting some known aggressive dog, but strangely enough I was never attacked.
When I got a little bit older I harassed all dog owners in the neighbourhood and relatives as well, by knocking their doors asking: - Can I walk your dog? At home my nagging about wanting a dog was of course excruciating.
Eventually, when I was 9 years old I got my first dog, a mongrel, and her sire was an Irish Terrier. She lived in 17 years and was called Chickie.
When she was gone, it took some years before I got a new dog, but 1978 I was ready to be owned by a dog again. I bought two Afghan Hounds. These two dogs were litter brothers and they took me into the dog world. I joined ”Brukshundklubben” (a club for working dogs) and became a member of the Swedish Kennelclub and I went to a dog show for the first time. One of them became BOS puppy for the wellknown special judge Bo Bengtsson and won a lot of prices. After that the I was stuck in the show-world.
I learned to be an instructor (a kind of teacher for dog owners), ring stuard etc. Afghan Hounds are not working dogs, but I succeded actually to get a 3rd price in a obedience trial with one of them. So I bought a Smooth Collie for working and showed the Afghans. All three were males.
1982 I was responsible for the first dog show held by Ölands Brukshundsklubb. It happened to be many after that, held by different Clubs like The Swedish Wheaten- and Collie Clubs.
1984 I met Chris, at ”Brukshundklubben” (the local dog club) of course. A guy with same big interest as me in dogs. He brought a Bouvier bitch with him. He was in a class at the dog club and I was the instructor. It didn’t take long util we realised we had more common than dogs och the 4th of May 1985 we got married.
We had found a Smooth Collie bitch that suited the male I already had “Jarry” and our first litter was born. To us it was the eight wonder of the world! Happily we called all friends telling about the wonderful news ;-)
We trained, competed and showed our dogs and went close and far.
At the show in Malmö 1985 we saw a Wheaten for the first time and fell in love. ”We want a Wheaten”, we said, but it wasn’t easy to find a reputble breeder at that time, but finally we found one and in September 1986 our first Wheaten arrived. In February 1988 our first Wheaten litter was born.
When our veterinarian examined our second litter, the B-litter, he said:
”- This will be your breed in the future”.
So right he was! This was the breed for us. With the lovely temperament and the wonderful coat, they have totally captured our hearts and since 1999 we have just Wheatens.
Chris and I were divorced in february 2018 and today I own the kennel and the dogs by myself.
Educations and merits
As mentioned before I’m an educated instructor by SBK (The Swedish Working Dog Club). I’m also educated dog trainer in the Swedish Air Forse. I’m ringstuard and have passed the examination for prospective show judges (anatomic and judgeing) by the Swedish Kennel Club, but because of some reasons I didn’t fullfill to get the CC rights.
I have also joined a lot of classes held by the Swedish Kennel Club, Special Clubs and Breed Clubs, about raising puppies, menthality etc. and some of the wellknown teachers are Sven Järveryd and Erik Wilson. I have also joined classes in anatomic and genetic studies, breeders educations to mention some of them.
I have been a member of a lot of commites, like Hon. Secretary in SBK Småland, Secretary and Preident of The Swedish Wheaten Club and a board member of SWTK for many years and Chairman of Region East.
Since 1987 I have been jugdging at all breed Open Shows. I have also been invited to judge at Breed Specalties for the Swedish Collie Club, The Swedish Boxer Club, The Airedale Club and The Swedish Wheaten Club. At the Swedish Wheaten Club Show in Stockholm 2004 I had an entry of 98 Wheatens.
In 2015 I was invited by the All Terrier Club in Ireland to hold a talk about the breed and the day before judge a specialty held by the Irish Softcoated Wheaten Terrier Club. Read more>>
Our goal in the breeding programe has always been to breed healthy dogs with good temperament, and many dogs from from us are "mentaltested" with very good points.
We have always looked for the origin of the breeds we have bred. When we had Smooth Collies, it was natural for us to bring in new blood from England, the county of origin, and to cooperate with breeders there. Now when we have Wheatens it is as natural to bring in new blood from Ireland and to cooperate with and learn from the Irish breeders.
Many Wheatens from Villa Rosa are also used in practical hunting and game tracking.
The anatomic has been very important, since we have been working our dogs and we have been very lucky to be able to buy and breed many excellent dogs up to the breed standard. What has shown up in many showrings around the world. There are several dogs we have owned and/or bred who has gained many Champion and winner titles in many countries like Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Ireland, Germany, Luxemburg, France, Poland, Czechia, Russia, USA, Canada Australia etc.
Have also been honoured to export dogs and puppies to many breeder colleges around our world and so even family dogs.
Am also very proud of having exported three dogs back to the county of origin, Ireland. One of them is DECH SUCH IECH Villa Rosas Jill Na Lausitz CW who is the first, and probably only, Wheaten bred in Sweden to become Irish Champion and to win the title Celtic Winner! For that we have got a diploma from the Irish Kennel Club.
Have also participated for many years in the Linné University education of government inspectors where Kickie has hold a video lecture over the internet and they used to visit the kennel for learning and questions.
My big interest and hobby "DOGs" has given me a lot of very good friends all over the world and Villa Rosa has the best "puppy buyers! in the world! <3
